Spotlight Art at the Library

Come to your nearest Plano Public Library (PPL) for #MoreThanBooks this month and take part in our Spotlight Art.

Spotlight Art features artist demonstrations and artist-led workshops at all five libraries. Introducing a new local artist every other month, PPL is putting VET in the Spotlight this January.

Having exhibited works both nationally and internationally, VET incorporates recycled materials into her work, showcasing innovative ways to rethink, repurpose and redesign discarded items.  VET was previously an 18st AIRSpace artist-in-residence at Harrington Library thanks to grant-funding from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

With each Spotlight Art artist, you’ll have two chances to interact with a local artist:

See a demonstration of their art

See a live demonstration of boro art with VET at Harrington Library on Saturday, January 18 at 2 pm. Boro is a type of textile that has been mended or pieced together. The event is come and go. Whether you’re there for the whole show or just stopping to say hello, we look forward to seeing you! You can see examples of VET’s boro art on display at Harrington Library through January.

Attend an art workshop

Want to make your own boro art? VET is returning to Harrington Library on Saturday, January 25 at 2 pm. This workshop is ticketed, so be sure to show up by 1:30 to get a spot in the class. During this workshop you will learn how to turn your favorite old pair of jeans into an updated piece of clothing.

While you’re there, check out our other art resources you have access to with your library card:

Check out our Calligraphy STEAM Kit to learn the art of brush lettering

Keep an eye out for one of our Art STEAM kits. From Pre-school Drawing to Calligraphy, PPL has kits for all ages. All of our STEAM kits come equipped with books, DVDs and the tools and materials you’ll need to make your own art. Fun fact: did you know that the Dewey number for Art is 700? Look between 741 and 781 for books on drawing, painting, photography and more!

If you’re looking to learn something new, Lynda.com features a number of instructional videos covering traditional drawing techniques as well as the latest creative software. Click here to log in using your Plano Library card number and PIN (the last four digits of your phone number).
