Teaching Books: A Hidden Gem

One of PPL’s hidden gems is the Teaching Books database. “Teaching Books” is only a portion of the wealth of resources for young readers and their teachers.

Go In-Depth with Books

On Teaching Books, you can hear exclusive interviews with popular authors, watch book trailers or read posts from authors about their process. Teachers and homeschool parents can find lesson plans and discussion questions, create word searches and more to go with each title.

Or, use their collection of links to other trustworthy resources, like bonus materials from the author and publishers’ websites, a Readers’ Theatre scripts from the Texas Library Association, and even the Salt Lake City library’s Treasure Island-themed digital escape room.

Learn About the Authors

A fun browsable feature is listening to authors pronounce their names, usually with a clever story to help you remember. Did you know Raina Telgemeier’s name is spelled that way because it was raining the night she was born? Or that Kwame Alexander’s name means “born on a Saturday,” even though he was born on a Wednesday?

Play Literary Games

The site also houses a collection of games, including book cover jigsaws for any title, book cover memory games, and this author name game:

With over 32,000 titles included, there are sure to be some familiar books… and the chance to discover many new favorites. Access Teaching Books now.
