Student Resources from Your Library

With the new year comes a new semester, and your library is here to help you prepare to go back to school.

You may already know that we have books in our collection to help supplement your learning at all ages and grade levels, including test-prep materials like books of practice tests. Just search “study guides” or the name of the test in our online catalog to find what we have in our collection.

Your library’s student resources don’t stop with the printed materials in our collection, however. Many of our electronic databases can be used to help with studying and school assignments, but two in particular deserve special attention: LearningExpress and Tutor.com:

LearningExpress is the first place to go for guided support for preparing to succeed on major exams, like the STAAR™, ACT®, SAT®, AP® tests and more. It also has job search tools, a school and scholarship finder, and a computer skills center.

Students can take the practice tests on LearningExpress in different modes: Practice, where you can see explanations at the end of the test; Learner, where you can view the answers after every question; and Simulation, where the test is timed and will stop once time runs out.

Tutor.com is another great place for students to go when they need help with or want to reinforce certain concepts from school. The standout feature has to be Tutor.com‘s live one-to-one help, where students can connect with tutors via webcam from 2-11 pm daily.

Aside from direct tutoring, Tutor.com users can also drop off papers, homework questions and resumes for review, as well as prepare for tests and job interviews.
