Getting Started with Zoom

Many of our workshops are hosted through Zoom, so we’ve put together a tutorial for beginners.

As our lives are becoming increasingly virtual, we are relying on communication and socialization with teleconferencing platforms such as Zoom. Our library, for example, has moved our live programming to Zoom and this trend will continue for the foreseeable future.

If you want to see Zoom in person, and ask questions of our experienced staff, join us on Friday, July 17 at 1 p.m. for our “Let’s Zoom!” workshop. Security and Zoom

If you have concerns about the security in Zoom: We recommend reading Zoom’s security information here. You may also want to ensure that your device permission level for Zoom is set to the option of “Only Allow While Using the App”. This lets your device gatekeep when you are not actively utilizing an application. Apple products have even gone so far as to notify you if an app has been utilizing a permission in the background in order to better protect their user’s privacy.

You may also call in to the Zoom meeting should you not wish to install the app on your device. Phone number and meeting ID information is included one you register for any Zoom event.

We do record webinar presentations in order to share recordings for later use and state this at the beginning of each program. Meeting style programs, such as our Book Clubs, are not recorded.
