Adapted Library – Summer Programs

Adapted Library supports neurodivergent access to library programs: adapted programs are sensory-friendly and targeted towards the needs of neurodivergent children, teens, adults and their families/caregivers. Neurodivergent includes autism spectrum disorder, Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, Tourette’s and other developmental and learning disabilities.  

Registration is now open for Adapted Library programs. For more information and registration details, please email LibraryAdapted@plano.gov.  

This summer, we are offering a wide variety of adapted programs for all ages: 

All Ages:

Art Adventurers – Harrington on Saturday, May 18 at 3pm

Create a guided art activity or design your own masterpiece, all in an inclusive environment. Activities are scaled for all ability levels. 

Glitter Jar – Schimelpfenig on Tuesday, July 2 at 6:30pm

Join us for a short storytime followed by a glitter jar activity. Learn how to use your glitter jar in a breathing mindfulness activity. 


Ages 3-5:

Adapted Storytime – Davis on Thursdays, June 6 – June 27 at 4pm and Haggard on Saturday, July 20 at 3pm

An interactive, inclusive storytime ideal for neurodivergent children. Activities are designed to stimulate the senses and promote learning – read books, sing songs, move around and have fun! 

Adapted Dance Party – Davis on Thursday, July 11 at 4pm

Move your body to your own rhythm and dance till you drop!


Grades K – 2:

Science Explorers – Haggard on Saturday, July 13 at 2pm

Join us for learning and hands-on STEAM activities geared toward neurodivergent children. 


Grades 3-5:

Engineering Challenge – Schimelpfenig on Saturday, July 20 at 2pm

Join us for an adapted STEAM Challenge: Engineering Edition! What will you make?


Grades 4-12:

Art Social Hour:

Collage Art – Schimelpfenig on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm

Weaving – Haggard on Sunday, July 28 at 2pm

Learn about process art as we create art together in a sensory-friendly environment.
